disagree  Thomas Miles: Looks too 'fixed' to move as a lock I am afraid (see pics).

agree  Ben Gaia: Intriguing source document!

agree  Libby Cohen: Judging from the photo in the link provided, sluice bridge makes sense. The bridge itself seems fixed and not movable.

disagree  Johannes Gleim: Not exactly, the "vanne" refers to one lock-gate or one lock. // downgraded as your link describes a weir at the mill situated at the "La Lauter" near Scheibenhard.

-> 'Vanne' alone is translated as 'weir', but 'pont-vanne' is translated as 'sluice-bridge' and 'sluice bridge'. See sections 204, 246, 314, and 330.

agree  Schtroumpf: Voir Termium : vanne -> sluice, sluice gate etc.

https://structurae.net/de/bauwerke/pont-vannes-du-millac/med...

https://stock.adobe.com/fr/images/pont-vanne-entre-les-sable...

westmos.eu
For example, there are still a number of infrastructure problems (bottlenecks, inappropriate gauge, height of bridges, operation of locks, lack of transhipment equipment, etc.) which prevent the uninterrupted passage of vessels throughout the year.

disagree  Ben Gaia: Your examples show that écluses are locks. Vannes are sluices which regulate water flow between tides and to operate locks.

gate valve bridge

Explanation:
A bridge is described with a function and purpose of dispersing floods, and in so doing it allows better passage and access to the port.

Example sentence(s):
  • It was a 'gate valve bridge' which dispersed floods in such a way as to allow better access to the port and to make merchant ship passage be possible in the channel.
