En una carta de referencia ecuatoriana de una profesora universitaria. La traducción es para Canadá.

"xxx certifica que XXX, con cédula de identidad xxx, trabajó como **docente tiempo completo**, la misma que cumplió con las cátedras de:

- Termodinámica
- Biología General
- Balance de Masa y Fenómenos de Transporte..."

Como coloqué en otra de las consultas, además de dar clases, la persona supervisó o dirigió varios trabajos de investigación de grado.

¿Cuál sería la manera más genérica de traducir "docente" aquí? Se trata de un docente universitario, por lo que teacher no funciona. "Instructor" corresponde al cargo más bajo del escalafón universitario. "Lecturer" implica que básicamente da clases y no se dedica a actividades de investigación. "Professor" pareciera estar asociado a profesor titular y requiere que tenga título de doctorado. Revisé parte de las entradas de proz, pero no todas (son casi 500).

At US universities, this would be commonly said for eveyone who teaches, whether they're instructors, lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, or (full) professors

In most Commonwealth countries, I reckon the term lecturer is the suitable one for Univ. teacher

disagree  Marcelo González: At US universities, lecturer is a rank, normally for those positions requiring only a master's; it's the rank just above instructor. In Australia and Jamaica, it's also a rank, below senior lecturer and professor. As a Monash PhD, I should know ;))
