Note: I am an avid tennis fan (especially of the top players), of both the ATP and WTA tours both in English and Spanish and I have never heard the word "drive" (for forehand) used in commentary or any of the matches I've watched over the years.

La derecha (en su caso la zurda) de Rafa Nadal que pega de fuera a dentro en su partido de semifinales en el Abierto de Australia está causando sensación. Lo ha hecho más veces pero es un golpe realmente difícil y de gran precisión. El punto se enmarca dentro del estratosférico nivel que está desplegando el tenista balear en este primer Grand Slam del año y que nos está dejando boquiabiertos a todos los que seguimos su extraordinaria carrera tenística.

"Drive" may be used in "Padel" (a game similar to tennis), but again, I personally have never heard it used in the hundreds of matches I've watched.

  -> As you say I have never heard "drive" and I follow ALL of Rafa's matches, being a total fanatic (I do follow tennis as a whole .. but..). Not even in Latin American/S. America have I heard commentators use "drive". Thanks.

El drive o derecha es el golpe básico. Consiste en golpear la pelota después del bote, de forma directa, del mismo lado del brazo hábil del jugador. Para la mayoría de los jugadores es el arma fundamental para ganar un punto y el de mayor control. Para realizar un correcto drive, se debe estar perfilado a la pelota; en el caso de un diestro, el golpe empieza en el lado derecho del cuerpo, continuando a través del mismo hasta impactar la pelota y terminando en la parte izquierda del cuerpo.
