Ohnisko nákazy je miesto prežívania pôvodcu nákazy spolu s jeho okolím, kde sa môže nákaza šíriť. Ohnisko pretrváva tak dlho, kým v ňom nevyhynie pôvodca nákazy a kým neuplynie maximálna inkubačná doba od poslednej možnosti styku s materiálom biologického pôvodu.[1] Prírodné ohnisko nákazy je miesto s podmienkami, ktoré umožňujú šírenie nákazy bez účasti človeka, teda medzi divožijúcimi živočíchmi.
