Dear colleagues,

I'm translating the book AI in Marketing, Sales and Service by Peter Gentsch.

Originally, this book was written in German (Künstliche Intelligenz für Sales, Marketing und Service: Mit AI und Bots zu einem Algorithmic Business) so I'm dealing with the English translation of the German original. And sometimes the English translaion seems rather strange to me and to native English speakers as well.

This is the German original:

Deutlich wird durch diese Definitionen, dass sich die Konzepte auf eine Fülle unterschiedlicher Service-Probleme diverser Branchen anwenden lassen können. Um trotzdem eine nützliche Einordnung für den Kundenservice vornehmen zu können, wird auf ein bewährtes Instrument der strategischen Steuerung für Service-Vorfälle zurückgegriffen. Dabei handelt es sich um die von Price und Jaffe (2008) vorgestellte Value-Irritant- Matrix. Diese ist in der Abb. 7.8 dargestellt.

Danach wird einerseits aus der Sicht der Unternehmung überlegt, ob diese an einem Kontakt mit dem Kunden unter Service-Gesichtspunkten interessiert ist, ***weil sie etwas über ihre Produkte und Dienstleistungen lernen kann***, sich dadurch Ideen für Einsparungen ergeben sowie sich durch den Kontakt eine Chance ergibt, weitere Produkte oder Leistungen zu verkaufen oder eben nicht. Andererseits wird systematisch die Perspektive des Kunden auf den Service-Kontakt eingenommen. Ist der Kunde wirklich an einem persönlichen Kontakt interessiert, weil er Antworten auf seine Fragen oder einen Rat bekommt und im Idealfall Geld sparen kann, oder sieht er gar keine Notwendigkeit mit einem Unternehmen in Kontakt zu treten und empfindet den Kontakt als ärgerlich?

This is the English translation:

Based on the explanation of big data and AI (2. A buffer’s guiding to AI, Algorithmics and Big Data), it is clear that the application of the concepts can extend to a wide range of different service problems in various sectors. In order to make a classification that is useful in customer service, a proven instrument of strategic control for service incidents is relied upon. This would be the Value Irritant Matrix presented by Price and Jaffe (2008) displayed in Fig. 5.10.

On the one hand, the company subsequently considers whether it is interested in establishing contact with the customer from a service point of view, ***since it would provide them with knowledge about their products and services***, thereby generating ideas for savings as well as the opportunity arising through the contact, of either selling other products or services or not. On the other hand, the customer’s perspective on the contact services is systematically taken into account. This concerns whether the customer is truly interested in a personal contact to have his questions answered, receive advice, and, ideally, save money, or whether he does not see any need to make a contact with the company and would find any such contact bothersome.

The part "since it would provide them with knowledge about their products and services" sounds very confusing to me because it is unclear to me what it implies in he context of the whole sentence and paragraph.

Does it imply that the company will learn something about its products and services from the customer or does it imply that the customer will learn something about the company's products and services.

One of my Russian colleague shared his opinion (the company will inform the customer about its product and services), but the doubt is still there.
