You are probably referring to your discussion entry 'It quotes the Handbook of Specifications from 1860. This book provides an "arrangement of specifications on a craft basis." The Gewerke (Fachlose) are termed "divisions" and "subdivisions" (McGraw Hill still uses them) and were later (19th century) named "categories or sections'.

You should admit that 'trade' is more comprehensive than 'section' used only to subdivide/classify the individual trades in the specifications and that my proposal 'trades' was supported.

Also interesting that somebody who suported 'facility' 2 years ago, now supports a quite different one.

To answer your Q: No, it is not possible to split points. It's left to the asker to choose whichever answer s/he considers 'most helpful'. I think that may be what JGleim is trying to express too, with his 'askers normally awards points for the answer, what fit their context at the most'.

I awarded points on the basis that 'subsequent work' would likely work best for most contexts; 'trades' just fit my documents better. I would sometimes like to divide points, but I don't think it is possible. If I can, please someone let me know!

Wenn ich richtig sehe, hat er "subsequent work" vorgeschlagen und mit "The Folgegewerke are the people/trades involved in the next stage(s)" erläutert. "subsequent trades" kam von Steffen als Kommentar, gleichzeitig mit einem Disagree zu meinen gleichlautenden Vorschlag.

'Earthworks' and other 'works' (trades) cannot be compared with 'building works' as the latter comprises all trades for construction of buildings. Trades comprise only dedicated works or tasks necessary for completion, tendered and awarded consequently to specialists in the trade.
