Spanish term or phrase: Pago de liberación
In a beneficiary audit engagement. The letter states X person is entitled to a sum of money, "con un pago de liberación" for a smaller amount of money. I am guessing this is a lien on the claim that is being paid out?

settlement payment in accord and satisfaction

Explanation:
compare un pago liberatorio : a settement payment (West); a payment that extinguishes the > obligation (Butterworths) > the debt; full and final settlement (Alcaraz & Hughes).

Acceptance of a lower amount suggests an accord and satisfaction.

Example sentence(s):
  • IATE: efecto liberatorio de un pago en effects of discharge of a payment
  • Accord and satisfaction is a contract law concept about the purchase of the release from a debt obligation. The release is completed by the transfer of valuable consideration that must not be the actual performance of the obligation itself.

  -> Thanks. I wanted to keep the options open, so either a settlement payment or an accord & satisfaction.
