Swedish term or phrase: bak (timber term)
In timber terminology, "bak" seems to refer to the curved end of a log when it is cut off, in contrast to the more internal parts of the log, which become boards, planks, etc.

Thus, a normal log would have two "bak"s after being cut (in a single direction) into lumber.

I understand this concept based on the descriptions I've read in Swedish, but what is the standard English equivalent of "bak"?

Asker: Thanks, that seems right. The only context in this case was a graphic (which I'm not sure how to paste here) that illustrated various different cuts of a log, labeled respectively as "bak", "bräda", "plank", etc..
