"The thicknesses of the Sn-based surface layer were measured by the fluorescent X-ray coating thickness gauge (SFT9400) made by SII Nano Technology Inc. First, with respect to each of the test materials after reflowing, a whole thickness of the Sn-surface layer was measured at first. Then, the Sn-based surface layer was removed by soaking in etching solution for removing plating coating for a few minutes, e.g., L80 made by Leybold Co., Ltd. or the like, that etches pure Sn but does not erode the Cu-Sn alloy layer. The under Cu-Sn alloy layer was exposed so that the thickness thereof was measured converting into pure Sn. The thickness of the Sn-based surface layer was defined by (the whole thickness of the Sn-based surface layer) minus (the thickness of the Cu-Sn alloy layer converted into pure Sn)."
