English term or phrase: whataboutism
Definition from Merriam-Webster:
The rhetorical technique or practice by reversing the accusation, arguing that an opponent is guilty of an offense just as egregious or worse. Also known as "whataboutery".

Example sentence(s):
  • Fears of impending whataboutism do not appear to have been exaggerated. Pundits have been noticing Trump’s proclivity for the “what about” defense for months. Even since taking office, the president has been quick to respond to accusations of collusion or corruption by pointing to the alleged misdeeds of his former opponent, Hillary Clinton. HuffPost
  • For a nanosecond, especially to an uncritical listener, this stab at logic might seem interesting, even thought-provoking, and that’s why it’s a useful political tool. Whataboutism appears to broaden context, to offer a counterpoint, when really it’s diverting blame, muddying the waters and confusing the hell out of rational listeners. Washington Post

וואטאבאוטיזם

Definition from Wikipedia:
כשל לוגי המנסה לדחות את טענת היריב על ידי האשמתו בצביעות, כדי לחמוק מהביקורת המקורית, תוך חוסר התייחסות לעצם הטיעון.

Example sentence(s):

Notes to answerer
Sandra & Kenneth Grossman My problem is not to the term itself, but rather with its inclusion in a dictionary and conferring it legitimacy. Neither of us can stop neologisms from being used, but we can definitely not give them legitimacy as Hebrew terms by inclusion in respectable dictionaries. If this term is used widely enough in its current form, it will find its way into the language in even without this. Alternatively, if you can propose a Hebrew term, not a transliteration, and it catches on because it becomes as useful as "telephone" or "email", I'll be happy to support it!

Votes in favor of/against selecting this as the best translation of the term asked
No  Sandra & Kenneth Grossman: This is a transliteration, not a Hebrew word. It looks and sounds awful in Hebrew. It cannot even be read and understood by the vast majority of Hebrew speakers without the English original next to it.

  -> אתה טועה ומטעה לצערי. ראשית יש מספיק דוגמאות למונחים לועזים שנטמעו בעברית כתיעתוק כמו טלפון או אימייל. שנית זה מונח מקצועי שמשמש בדיוק כך. נתתי דוגמאות ויש עוד מלא. שלישית אל נא תטען בשם רוב הישראלים אלא בשם עצמך. כאמור הדוגמאות מעידות שהמונח כן בשימוש כך

Definition from twitter:
Whataboutism (גם: whataboutery, מאנגלית: מה לגבי, מה באשר ל-) הוא כשל לוגי המנסה לדחות את טענת היריב על ידי האשמתו בצביעות, כדי לחמוק מהביקורת המקורית[1][2].

Example sentence(s):
  • הפרקטיקה הזאת נקראת בעברית ״גמגוגיה״ (Whataboutism): מטיחים נגד נתניהו שהוא מושחת? ״רגע, אבל מה עם גנץ?! מה עם איתן כבל?!״. הטיעונים כאלו בעצם מוציאים את העוקץ מכל ביקורת שלטונית - Zman
