French to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Finance (general)
French term or phrase: collatéral
XXX is a French sister-company of YYY here (i.e. both in the same international group). XXX was in financial difficulties.

ZZZ is a bank.

"Les suretés suivantes de droit français ont été octroyées aux prêteurs le 13 octobre 2011 :

une convention de nantissement de parts sociales relative aux parts sociales d'XXX conclue entre YYY en qualité de constituant et ZZZ en qualité d'agent des suretés ;

une convention de cession de créance professionnelle à titre de garantie relative à certaines créances d'assurance entre XXX en qualité de cédant et ZZZ en qualité de collatéral ;"

This seems a strange use of "collatéral", although context may suggest that it is obvious that it means "guarantor" or one of many synonyms. "Collatéral" in French is usually an adjective, as in English. The only legal reference I can find where it is a noun is in Bridge (legal dictionary) where it refers to a relative with a particular degree of related in a succession case, i.e. completely irrelevant.

Also the insurance context makes me wonder whether there is any specialist use of this word in the insurance field which maybe someone recognises.
