French term or phrase: bureau de la position
Hello, This is a unit of the Cashier's department in a West African central bank. Is there anyone out there who is familiar with central banking who might have an idea about this? Little to no context (otherwise I would figure it out myself so please no lectures about context). Thank you!

English translation:cash-balances (accounting position) office
Explanation:
It could be that de la position is simply being used to mean 'de l'emplacement' as a site office - so de la localisation rather than 'de location' as a rental.

A unit of the cashier's department suggests otherwise.

My hunch is that this is the DRC - the Democratic Republic of the Congo, spelt as in 'impressive' sovereign debt cases I had once been instructed on and would rather not go into.

the (bank) official's/employee's office

Explanation:
Sounds to me that 'position' refers to this person's post or position

agree  Ph_B (X): "cash balance?/position?" for position de trésorerie? Did mention it ('on a hunch') in DBox yesterday, but deleted it following T's post./Still don't know how it fits T's additional info, but great minds, etc.

-> Thanks and merci. This is the first time I've come on to the question, so had never seen your DBox entry, but will attribute (to) you the credit for 'upstaging and scooping' me!

neutral  Daryo: in the right direction, but "Position de liquidité" would make more far more sense.

-> You're right, but there might be another reason for the mealy-mouthed 'position', such as a euphemism for a valuables safe....

neutral  Francois Boye: DRC is not part of West Africa?

neutral  Francois Boye: Is this relevant to West Africa?//Have you ever heard of the BCEAO 's compte d'operations?/Do you know that a central bank has no liquidity constraint?

-> Zut alors! I forgot that in West Africa they invented some new special variety of Central Banks that needs no reserves .... // in which way these "compte d'operations" would change the need to monitor "la position de liquidité"? have to do with cashiers?
