Greek term or phrase: επί επαγωγής
This concerns a category of liver failure: acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).

Έτσι, σύμφωνα με τις κατευθυντήριες οδηγίες, η ριμπαβιρίνη θα μπορούσε να χορηγηθεί σε σοβαρή οξεία ηπατική προσβολή ή επί επαγωγής οξείας επί χρονίας ηπατικής ανεπάρκειας.

Should "επί επαγωγής ..." be understood as meaning "when ACLF is induced", or can it be understood in some other way?

in the case of induction
Explanation:
As far as επί is concerned, the meaning is “in the case of”, i.e., word for word, “in the case of induction of acute-on-chronic liver failure”. When it comes down to brass tacks, it does not differ from the simpler “σε” of the previous phrase. But I would not have anything against your rendering “or when ACLF is induced”.

One of the most frequent uses of επί+genitive in formal Greek appears in older dictionaries. Before the definition of various senses, where English dictionaries use of within brackets followed by the things, persons, occasions, etc. that the specific sense is restricted to, Greek dictionaries would use επί+genitive: επί πραγμάτων, επί ζώων, επί πλοίων.

on induction

Explanation:
this means , according to me , that the ribavirin (tribavirin) could be prescribed(administered) when the ACLF(ACUTE CHRONIC LIVER FAILURE) has already taken place ,but most accurately when acute hepatic failure/ insufficiency has already been induced (caused, provoked, come as an upshot)

Example sentence(s):
  • Ribavirin could be administered on induction of acute chronic hepatic insufficiency

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, Nick. I've never seen "επί" used so much within a single article. Looking ahead through the remaining pages, I've noticed more and more examples.
