NOTE: This applies to OST (over speed trip) systems on special purpose as well as general purpose turbines.

Consider the following OST component and system conditions as inoperable:
• Failure of OST trip valve actuation (actuation above 105% of trip speed or failure to actuate). This includes sticking or inoperable trip solenoids, dump valves, trip pins and latches, linkage, trip valve components, etc.
• Failure to achieve or maintain steam isolation to turbine in a trip condition. Steam isolation failure occurs when a line bypassing the trip valve or leakage across the trip valve seat provides steam to the turbine with sufficient energy to cause shaft rotation or prevent rapid deceleration as intended on a trip.
