Italian term or phrase: nella ricezione del poeta di età arcaica
This essay is about the reception of the works by a poet who glorified war and dying for one's country. This paragraphy has just explained how this poet is traditionally seen as an inciter of going to battle during ancient wars.

I am confused by "nella" here, and how it connects to the reception of this author. Is it simply saying "of accepting this ancient poet"?

in the reception [interpretation] of the poet of the archaic age
Explanation:
I understand "reception" here in the sense of "reading" his "particular interpretation of his texts or situations"

... a new page, sometimes distorting, in the reception [reading/interpretation] of the poet of the archaic age is marked by Plutarch

In my view "una nuova pagina" is just another way to say "a new chapter" "another point of view"

"Probably the beginning of a new page," would be "Probably the beginning of a new chapter/viewpoint"

perception of this ancient poet

Explanation:
I think you've made things slightly tricky by splitting the sentence into two questions. And the writer has complicated things by saying "pagine nella ricezione". Normally you'd expect something like "storia" or "cronica" to follow 'pagina" - perceptions don't have pages.

Anyway, here's my suggestion for the whole sentence:

A new and somewhat distorted perception of this ancient poet grew up. It was probably introduced by Plutarch, who, in his Life of Cleomenes...
