English term or phrase: Milo Lockett`s paintings are childlike or childish
I`d like to know if when we talk about Milo Lockett`s paintings we can say they are childlike because of their innocence or because they're naive. I also thought of childish but I think it has a more negative connotation. Is this so? My 6th grade students must compare two different paintings.

milo lockett`s paintings are childlike or childish
childlike

Explanation:
definitely not childish which is not a synonym and is quite negative

Not sure I'd describe it as naive though.

Naïve art is simple, unaffected and unsophisticated – usually specifically refers to art made by artists who have had no formal training in an art school or academy

agree  Tegan Raleigh: agree with the preference for childlike, and also avoiding the term naive (the term for me reads immediately as synonymous with "gullible")
