Quando estamos em um ambiente fechado, conversando com alguém, a voz dessa pessoa seria o "primeiro plano" da nossa atenção/audição. As "propriedades acústicas" ou simplesmente a "acústica" desse ambiente seriam um "plano abaixo" ou um "plano secundário", que engloba ainda mais detalhes. Por isso a palavra "even" vem seguida pela palavra "down". Entretanto, não acredito ser necessário traduzir utilizando a palavra "detalhes".

Reference information:
Por ser um texto de ficção colocaria mais ênfase na qualidade da acústica, mas se fosse uma tradução técnica seria mais interessante citar as propriedades da acústica. Essa é minha opinião, espero ajude.
