Но акцент в данном случае делается на другом: не на задержании и хранении воды, а не ослаблении интенсивности её стока в ливнёвую канализацию. Если выпадает много воды с дождём, это создаёт нагрузку на ливнёвую канализацию, которая может привести к её переполнению. Чтобы не допустить этого, воду задерживают на крыше, а после постепенно спускают в ливнёвую канализацию. Общее количество воды, отправленной в канализацию, остаётся неизменным, но стекает она в течение более длительного времени. То есть обеспечивается снижение интенсивности стока ливнёвых вод, и как следствие = гне допускается переполнение ливнёвой канализации.
