... by the amount of dialect in Kosovar court documents (you have seen a lot of questions from me and kindly solved my problems). It's a result of the introduction of sound and video recordings, of course. Witnesses and defendants are quoted with full respect for their dialect. But it makes translating more difficult. I don't try to represent Kosovar dialect with Swedish dialect, though. In fiction, it's a different thing. I admire the translator who succeeded with transformation of Finnish dialect into Swedish dialect in Väinö Linna's novels, for instance. I hope they are available in English or Albanian.

I am not replying to this only because someone else agreed with me, but one should see the bigger picture. It was only a term with only one explanation and that was either "cannot" or "can't". Anyway, I see no point of taking this any further. Thanks!

I most certainly don't want to offend you, or Jonis. But you put a 4 for confidence, and Jonis added his support, but I felt he was wrong about the legalese so I didn't count his addition. Also, I am immensely grateful to all of you for helping me out with dialect and other problems.

Sorry, I missed the apostrophe. Cannot is good enough too and you know this is about understanding what you asked for. I am completely aware this is a dialect, otherwise I couldn't have known the word.

I think it would be wrong (or at least innecessary) to translate a dialect expression into legalese or standard English. "Can't" is good enough. Besides, I translate into Swedish, as you might know, so comments on variants of English are interesting but not important to me. However, since the Proz remembers all questions and answers, a comment on language variants might be useful for future users.
