English to French translations [PRO]
Law (general) / divorce document Decree N
English term or phrase: District Judge (UK)
I am aware that this term has come up before. I have found '

Juge du tribunal de premiere instance'.
It gets complicated when you have a name as well and then a particular court ie 'Family court'

The full sentence reads :

before District Judge X (surname of Judge) sitting at the Family Cout at Croydon.. on ... June 2017'

thank you for your suggestions.

Asker: Bonjour, merci de votre suggestion. Ici au RU le district judge n'aura pas la meme fonction peut-etre qu'en Suisse ou dans d'autre pays.

(CH & BE)) Juge de paix

Explanation:
French into English? Wrong lingo driection, unless deliberate

Not really a first-instance judge. That would be a magistrate, but a County Court Registrar of old.

Jude de paix: (formerly) District Judge > FHS Bridge's FRE/ENG glossary.

Point taken, Nicole. Coincidentally, if my failing Alzheimer's memory serves me right, 'Stipes' in England & Wales turned into District Judges almost 20 years ago: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stipendiary_magistrate

Example sentence(s):
  • Les juges de paix traitent la justice civile concernant les problèmes n'impliquant pas de sommes importantes dans plusieurs cantons de la Suisse, dont Vaud.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you for your suggestion Adrian. 'Juge de paix' comes up as 'stipendiary magistrate' which is a 'professional and remunerated' judge as opposed to some lay magistrates.
