Consult the manufacturer's service manual for specific TIR (Total Indicator Runout) and bar-to-bar step recommendations.
The brush, item 01, stubs its toe on high Bars, item 02, produces an arc, item 03, drags copper from adjoining Bars, item 04, and produces a flat spot, item 05.
This results in an out-of-round Commutator surface and roughness.

A fine-grain sandpaper, #00, should be used to avoid deep scratches and excessive removal of the copper surface
Sandpaper will not remove small flat spots.
It will actually broaden them and generate undesirable wear surfaces on the Commutator Bars.
A Commutator stone is therefore recommended over sandpaper.

Em operação normal, a superfície do comutador desgasta-se gradativamente.
