The expression comes from the novel "Home" by Marilynne Robinson. The narrator ponders her preacher father's thoughts on sin, the soul and "the perils of spiritual complacency". I wonder if it is the same as "lelki restség", "jóra való restség" in Hungarian.
"Granting the many perils of spiritual complacency, and her father did grant them as often as Pharisees figured in the text, complacency was consistent with the customs and manners of Presbyterian Gilead and was therefore assumed to be justified in every case."

agree  Annamaria Amik: Lelki (főleg bizánci) szövegekben a complacent arra is utal, hogy az ember rossz értelemben megelégedik az állapotával. Robinson szövegében erre jól illik a langyosság, hiszen hiányzik belőle az elköteleződés (a "forróság").
