Explanation:
This would be an acceptable anglicisation of the term, if that was what was required. The meaning is as suggested. Using "Marrekshis" would be more informal, or possibly in a register that would indicate a familiarity with the locality and its inhabitants. English uses "sh" where French spells it with a "ch".
