French term or phrase: dissection circulaire au doigt rétro-musculaire
This is a patent document proposing the use of animal tissue as a biological implant, including for the treatment of parastomal hernias.

In one section, a method is suggested for the implementation of the implant, as below:

"

I am confused by the combination and order of words in the third instruction. As we are in the abdominal area, the patient's "finger" is clearly inappropriate, and I find no other references to finger as another anatomical label.

Could it be that "au doigt" is oddly placed but refers to how the surgeon should perform this step, i.e. using their fingers, to the touch, according to their feeling?

This would make "dissection circulaire rétro-musculaire" one element.

retromuscular dissection using a circular movement of the finger
Explanation:
In anatomical dissection the fingers are sometimes used to dissect loose connective tissue.

In this case, Dr. Francis Price performs a deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) using the big-bubble technique. When Descemet's membrane remains adherent and no bubble can be formed, the surgeon converts to manual dissection of the stroma. The donor and recipient tissues are previously incised with femtosecond laser in a zigzag pattern that provides a secure, interlocking interface between the surfaces.

Notes to answerer
Asker: The French is rather jumbled up then isn't it?

Asker: I would say however Sue, that in view of the first step, "circulaire" is likely to refer to the dissection itself.
