Разумеется, дети могут быть и чужими (замечание вполне резонное), но в этом предложении говорящий, мне кажется, говорит о своих детях.
Согласен с Рейчел в том, что стоит добавить my перед детьми. Для английского языка характерно употребление личных местоимений там, где в русском их по смыслу можно опустить.

  -> Thanks for your comment. it's not clear in this contxt if the children belong to the speaker. It might be just "the children". Before and in front of-also depends on where. If the speaker's standing physically then in front of, here "before", you'r right
