"La Casa de la Maestra está situada al lado de la escuela y se destinaba a residencia del docente de la escuela, siendo la última una mujer, por lo que se recuerda con este nombre. En las primeras décadas del siglo XX, la población de la zona, como en toda Galicia, vivía mayoritariamente en núcleos muy pequeños, lo que dificultaba su escolarización. En numerosos puntos surgieron pequeñas escuelas, con frecuencia a cargo de un único maestro, en las que era necesario dotar de vivienda a los docentes. Al otro lado de la carretera, se conserva un **antiguo lavadero** donde era habitual ver a la maestra lavando ropa"

Los lavaderos son una construcción muy típica en Galicia. He localizado términos como washplace, laundry que no me convencen.

Explanation:
Although, 'house' implies an enclosed place, they are almost always open air, sometimes with a protecting roof.

It is certainly an improvement over laundering in the river and brings to mind the depiction, in The Forging of a Rebel, by Arturo Barea of his mother washing clothes in winter,in the frozen Manzanres River, in Madrid, and having to break the ice and wash in freezing water.
