Ob die ganze Walzstraße aus nur einem Walzgerüst besteht, ist aus dem von Yuu gelieferten Kontext nicht zu entnehmen. Aber selbst dann darf man die unterschiedlichen Begriffe nicht vermischen. In allen angegebenen Referenzen wurde "Gerüst" immer mit "stand" übersetzt. Bevor man das mit "Straße" übersetzt, müsste man wissen, dass keine weiteren Maschinen vor und nach dem Gerüst zu finden sind. Halte ich für unwahrscheinlich, weil die großen Gewichte der Brammen und Blechen nur mit schweren Förderanlagen transportiert werden können. Diese Anlagen bilden mit einem oder mehreren Gerüsten eine Straße.

Die Gleichsetzung wäre auf jeden Fall eine Überinterpretation. Das wäre so, als würde man ein Anwesen als Dorf bezeichnen, ohne zu wissen, ob es dort noch weitere Anwesen gibt. Ein Gerüst bleibt immer ein Gerüst, auch wenn weitere Gerüste hinzukommen.

Ob der Kunde damit einverstanden ist, müsste man gegebenenfalls mit ihm erst abstimmen.

@ Yuu: ist dem Kunden der Unterschied zwischen "Walzgerüst "(rolling stand)" und "Walzstraße (rolling mill)" klar und hat er der Übersetzung mit "rolling mill" zugestimmt?

I think I understand the distinction here between a cold rolling STAND and a cold rolling MILL, in that a mill is made up of one or more rolling stands in series. A single-stand rolling mill is still a mill, even if comprised of only one stand [1]. We should all be careful here to avoid a selective reading of Kim's TU Freiberg reference, which does translate Kaltwalzgerüst as both cold rolling STAND and cold rolling MILL, proving both / neither point of view correct. This interchange is probably because they seem to have one stand operating independently as a single-stand mill.

The present text refers to "*ein* Sendzimir-Reversier-Kaltwalzgerüst", so even if "gerüst" strictly refers to stands, there is still only the one of them, in which case surely the translations are equivalent (i.e. a single-stand mill). If the equipment has more than one stand in series, then it is a mill.

I have a feeling that the distinction here is not that critical, and this may be a case of the tendency of the German language to be over-specific in comparison to English.

English-speaking engineers refer to a Kaltwalzgerüst as a COLD ROLLING STAND. So does the Freiberg Institute as well. See your own reference! Please do not mismatch a rolling stand with a rolling mill. A rolling mill has several rolling stands in line to reduce the thickness step by step. You cannot reduce the thickness of a foil or lingot by 90 % in one step. The material would block the rollers in such case and damage the machinery consequently.

And wouldn't translate rolling mill bei "Walzgerüst", "mill" by "Gerüst", or "stand" by "Werk" or "Straße ", and vice versa, as I hope.

English-speaking engineers refer to a Kaltwalzgerüst as a MILL. A cold rolling mill. So does the Freiberg Institute, as you can see.

Sendzimir process (named after Tadeusz Sendzimir) is used to galvanize a steel strip by using a small amount of aluminum in the zincbath and producing a coating with essentially no iron-zinc alloy. The process guarantees high resistance and durability characteristics. About 75% of hydrogen was needed in the original Sendzimir process but all the newer nonoxidizing methods of degreasing require only 7–15%.[1]

The rolling of hot steel slabs using a Sendzimir mill requires a much smaller operational area than a continuous hot strip mill. This milling process is not recommended for heavy duty running surfaces such as crane rail.
