toll barriers at motorway / highway exits Explanation: "diffuseur" usually means an exits from a motorway onto "normal" roads; but sometimes it is used (probably erroneously!) to refer to a motorway interchange ('échangeur') — i.e. between 2 motorways, either or both of which might be toll. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day 15 hrs (2018-10-03 07:39:09 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- Note that this formal use of 'diffuseur', where in everyday parlance we might speak of 'sortie', somewhat parallels the usage in the UK, where we perhaps more properly talk about 'junction 25 on the M6', but people will often refer to it as 'exit' (which I think is the term commonly used on US highways / turnpikes) |
