edging Explanation: Don't know kitesurfing vocab at all, but had a look, wondered about "tacking" ("tirer des bords" in sailing) and "doing runs", then plumped for "edging" going by hits...but happy to be corrected by an expert! Example sentence(s):

tacking Explanation: For example, "tirer des bords" refers to "tacking" Tirer des bords Naviguer en virant de bord pour optimiser la vitesse. tack - virement de bord https://www.kitesurf.boutique/actus/tuto-strapless-le-tack-o... "A kitesurfing tack is performed by turning your board into the wind to turn around. On appelle cela le « virement de bord ou tacking », ce qui vous permettra de naviguer au vent. Comment remonter au vent : "2. Border. Orientez la planche dans la direction vers laquelle vous voulez vous diriger, plutôt que de laisser l’aile vous entraîner directement au portant. faire quelques bords do a few runs Explanation: Strictly speaking a "bord", "tirer des bords" are all describing an upwind point of sail, as Kevin has pointed out, as being "to tack". More familiarly though, when you are starting out, as is the case here, "faire quelques bords", is being used less formally and basically means "to do a few runs". Note that we're not talking about speed runs and record attempts, here, but the first few runs you'll be jumping for joy about. It boils down to managing to go back and forth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bslfd5indaI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcriB9nt-yg -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2018-08-28 17:48:35 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8LGU-3fyTM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyj7Lrk1Jds etc. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2018-08-28 20:08:22 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- You might like to do a search with"faire des runs". Try with François Gabart. He kitesurfs and sails. Compare then with Alex Thomson, a UK sailor who amis kitesurfs. Both use the term "run", although they are both good. I've done interpreting at press conferences where both have spoken about kitesurfing. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 days 17 hrs (2018-09-01 10:02:52 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Sorry about my oddly expressed additional note. I was on my telephone. I pressed "enter" without meaning to. Still, you probably get the gist. :-) |
