neutral  writeaway: sure why not. the only actual difficulty was the lack of a full sentence/context. don't agree with while not losing site of. that doesn't work at all.

Il faut dire que si, jusqu’à la fin du dix-neuvième siècle, l’analyse de la culture matérielle a joui d’une certaine popularité en anthropologie, cette culture matérielle a largement été ignorée, si ce n’est rejetée, au cours du vingtième siècle (Buchli 2002). Le renouveau des études sur la culture matérielle réintroduit les objets au coeur de l’analyse des phénomènes sociaux et culturels en tentant de dépasser une vision statique de ces derniers, une vision des objets considérés comme des surfaces inertes, des miroirs des relations sociales ou des fossiles qu’il s’agirait d’excaver pour accéder au social. Les objets sont plutôt analysés sous l’angle ethnographique (Tilley 2001) alors que la matérialité est abordée comme un processus. Avec le lancement du Journal of Material Culture en 1996 à l’UCL, la recherche en culture matérielle se dote d’une tribune transdisciplinaire et acquiert une certaine légitimité sans toutefois perdre – c’est du moins le souci des éditeurs (Miller et Tilley 1996) – son caractère indiscipliné. D’autres contributions méritent aussi d’être soulignées, par exemple celle de Tim Dant (1999) en sociologie, celle de Sophie Chevalier et Martine Segalen (1996), ainsi que de Jean-Pierre Warnier (1999) en ethnologie ou encore celle de Bruno Latour (1999) en sociologie des sciences. L’intérêt pour la culture matérielle s’observe jusqu’en géographie, dans les travaux d’Edward Soja (1989) notamment, de même qu’en philosophie, dans ceux qu’a menés Judith Butler (1993) sur le corps.
