English term or phrase: to take off
Hi

Please, how do you say "to take off" (i.e. of an aeroplane) in Amharic. Oddly enough, my dictionary (Leslau) doesn't give it.

Best wishes,

Simon

Explanation:
I found take-off in my version of Leslau dictionary and indicated as መነሣት (search for "take-off" in the dictionary).
Also, the term can be spelled as መነሳት as well. So take off is equivalent to መነሣት or መነሳት.

It took off == ተነሥቷል

If you need to be more explicit about what took off, You may write as አውሮፕላኑ ተነሥቷል which is equivalent to "The plane took off"

Notes to answerer
Asker: Many thanks - so what is the usual dictionary form, please? I.e. the form that would be translated as "It took off"?
