Fragment pochodzi z książki opowiadającej o genezie powieści detektywistycznych. Wklejam dłuższy fragment, żeby łatwiej było zrozumieć kontekst.

Nie potrafię zrozumieć zadania, w którym występuje termin "minor outlet". Byłabym wdzięczna za pomoc ;)

"These popular, working-class publications came to be known as ‘pulps’, a term denoting the quickly deteriorating wood-pulp paper on which they were printed. By contrast, so-called ‘slicks’ like Collier’s and McClure’s, whose stories and advertising appealed to middle-class American consumers, used heavier, more expensive rag paper suitable for lithography. Wood-pulp magazine printing was the innovation of New York publisher Frank Munsey, who switched to the cheaper, lighter paper for his general-audience weeklies early in the 1890s in order to save money on paper and postage. Over the next decade his circulation figures skyrocketed (Pronzini and Adrian, ‘Introduction’, 2).
While Munsey’s success posed little immediate threat to the ‘slicks’, it did cut sharply into sales of the dime novels and rival popular weeklies.

These had been the minor outlet for action-hero detectives cast in the mould of Vidocq and Bucket, men like Old King Brady and the gymnastic boy-wonder Nick Carter, the best-selling and longest-lived fictional detective of all time.

It wasn’t long before popular publishers like Beadle and Adams, who had invented the dime novel to sell to barely literate Civil War soldiers, and Street and Smith, creators of The Nick Carter Library, took their seats at the pulp-wood table (Goulart, s. 10). By the end of the First World War, the pulp magazines were driving the dimes off the newsstands and beginning to specialize."
