Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering / Engineering design process
Spanish term or phrase: proyecto modificado
"La empresa X fue adjudicataria del contrato para la realización del proyecto modificado del viaducto sobre el río X"

The document, written by the client, certifies that a certain engineering company did a 'proyecto modificado' of a viaduct for them, and then goes on to explain that there was an inital design which could not be carried out because the river was too deep, so they came up with a totally different design for the viaduct and went ahead with it. This second design was the 'proyecto modificado'.

Barbara's suggestion is good, and I suppose you could even use the literal translation "modified project"....

IMHO, a project is a project. If you want to draw a distinction between project and design, then feel free to go ahead, although I prefer to keep the latter for translating "diseño"...

NB: Barbara appears to have removed her answer; I still think it's a very good option, whether or not you agree with using "project" or not.

@Asker: I only posted these links as examples of usage. And as I mentioned earlier, if you really think the distinction between design/project is important here (which I don't, but then again I don't have all the information in front of me), then feel free to use whichever tickles your fancy.

Moreover, the design is part of the project; so, modifying one means modifying the other. I really don't see the problem in using these terms more or less interchangeably, at least in the sample sentence provided.

Example sentence(s):
  • The amended project is the subject of the current application ... and is fully described in Section 1.6.

Notes to answerer
Asker: No; we're not talking about the 'project' but the 'design' here. Google is not a reliable source, I'm afraid. The example you copied takes the term from 'Amended and Restated Development Financing Agreement'. That's an amendment to a contract. It's a a wholly different field.
