The problem that full lift timing can pose Is that the exact opening and closing points are not necessarily known and, cherefore, the actual duration (specfic number of dcgrees) of the camshaft could be less than the design’s specification. The point being that camshafts, as ground, do not always have the right number of duration degrees in total. A camshaft lobe can have up to 10 degrees of duration less than listed. Seldom do camshafts have morę than advertised duration.

All too often an engine has a high performance camshaft fitted and it is automatically assumed that the camshaft is timed right. If you're lucky the camshaft may be timed right, but the chances are that it will not be. The reason for this Is production tolerances and, perhaps, cylinder head planing (retards the camshaft timing on OHC engines).
