The sentence I have is the following: "ENCAUSAMIENTO Y DESCOLMATACIÓN DEL CAUCE DEL RIO", it is part of the description of activities for an ISO requirement. I understand it has something to do with cleaning the riverbed, but I cannot find a proper word for it.

agree  Thomas Walker: A term commonly used for "encauzamiento", at least in the U.S., is "channelization". It is commonly used for re-establishing the channel of a waterway of some kind, probably more than it is for establishing a new channel.
