Here is the context: The Soldier has a nervous breakdown and rushes into the local church with a knife in his hand, interrupts the sermon and steps on the pulpit. Then:

Sie hörten die Schritte seiner genagelten Schuhe und bemerkten, dass der Pfarrer ihnen den Rücken zukehrte und zu dem hinabsah, der zu ihm emporstieg. Und dann erschien sein Kopf über die Brüstung, sein Hals und seine Brust.
“Rub, zo sgingest,” sagte er plötzlich. Der Pfarrer verschwand sofort von der Kanzel.
Da begann der Soldat zu lachen und mit heulender Stimme zu fluchen.

Then he moves onto delivering a nonsensical sermon and starts singing. Finally, he leaves the church and goes to the train station, running along the railways with the same knife in his hand.

What's the context for this sentence: who is saying this to whom, in what circumstances? Italian translation is only available on the net but I don't speak Italian. Could you provide us with your translation of one or two sentences before "Rub, zo sgingest"?

I called it "broken Polish" because the last Silesian speaker I consulted took offense when I asked him what it meant in Silesian, calling it himself "broken Polish", together with the translation/transcription of the phrase in both Silesian and Polish proper :)

It's not broken Polish. They have their own, regional dialect.
