Chamber of Apparel Manufacture/Manufacturers Explanation: I have to stress that the proposed translation should only apply to the case asked here. This term has been previously discussed and not agreed upon here: https://www.proz.com/kudoz/albanian_to_english/law_taxation_... In translators' defence everywhere, it's the Albanians in the industry itself that cannot agree on the aim and function. From the uses I see online, including the one presented in the question itself, the industry is apparel and textile manufacture. The Albanian websites insist on a made-up word "Façon", hence the acronym CFA (https://wbc-rti.info/object/organisation/9733). Interestingly, I had the chance to meet an old schoolmate this summer who works for the Chamber who debunked my belief that the industry only deals in apparel. He said the word "fason" was applied from a French one meaning "to do" and is adapted to mean "to process". Fasoneria does indeed deal with made-to-order products (apparently even fish processing takes place in there). I feel the frustration of the asker, as well as of any translator caught in the impossible task of giving this a name. |

Garment and footwear industry (sic) Explanation: You are not the only one to be baffled by this term both in Albanian and English. J Fasonit/Fasoneve/industria fasonit - means garment and footwear industry (either CMT - Cut, Make, Trim or fully Fully factored". Quite possibly the largest part of the business in Albania would be CTM. It is a very recent term. The Chamber has decided to use and borrow the term "Façon" (not Facon). Originally it was called "industria e prodhimit të veshmbathjeve dhe të këpucëve". Please see this link for a clearer idea: https://www.usaid.gov/news-information/press-releases/usaid-... On the other hand I am guessing that CTM is the closest term the translator has been able to come up with. |
