Italian term or phrase: un miglioramento fisico
In the year 3,000 a newly discovered DNA variation is beginning to display its effect and is splitting mankind into two groups:

"...cioè coloro la cui mutazione si manifesta con un miglioramento fisico e con un’amplificazione straordinaria delle qualità intellettive, e i Deviati, una razza..."

I am not sure if this should be something like physical "development" or "progression" or something, as I think "improvement" is a bit non-specific in English. I know there is good scientific way to term this - I just can think of it!

agree  philgoddard: Yes, improvement is fine too. It's a bit nonspecific in Italian too, and it's not the translator's job to make it more specific.

neutral  philgoddard: I think this is overtranslation. It's not what the Italian says.
