French term or phrase: Ensembles communicants
Hi,

This term is in a text about defining a system component for the design and construction of electrical infrastructure. The whole sentence goes:

"A cela s'ajoute la fourniture d'ensembles modulaires et communicants pour la protection et la supervision qualifiés fonctionnellement sur plate-forme par des tests représentatifs des conditions réelles d'exploitation."

Has anyone come across this term?

Many thanks.

neutral  Tony M: I have a doubt here; although this is indeed one standard meaning, I believe here it involves a more recent adoption of this term.

Explanation:
I would translate "ensembles modulaires et communicants" as "modules and connectors." Both modules and connectors are ensembles/assemblies of smaller components. An electrical engineer or the like makes the modules and connectors, but anyone (e.g. analytical scientists) can link them together into a useful setup. I couldn't find a reference in French.
