Актуальность исследования обусловлена тем, что при существующей системе национального счетоводства РФ производства с использованием импортных предметов труда всегда оказываются «эффективнее» чисто отечественных.
В Мультитране приведены значения, которые мне кажутся не совсем удачными.
Например, в разделе "Общая лексика" предлагается использовать subject of labor.
Википедия содержит англоязычную версию термина под названием "Subject of labor".
В теоретических работах, ссылающихся на теорию Маркса о труде, он встречается, однако на английском странновато звучит само сочетание "imported subjects of labor".
Не думаю, что в балансе кто-то стал бы употреблять такой вариант. Для means of labor (такой перевод я тоже встречал для искового термина) уже используется "средства труда", а для instrumetns - орудия.
То же самое касается means of production (его кто-то тоже в одной статьей перевел как "предметы труда").
Уже существует устоявшийся вариант "средства производства". И что же остается?
В Википедии написано: "Предме́т труда́ — вещество природы, на которое человек воздействует в процессе труда, или перерабатываемая человеком в процессе интеллектуального труда информация.".
То есть по сути предмет труда - это некое сырье, но Википедия предолжает: "не каждый предмет труда представляет собой сырьё, хотя каждый сырой материал — предмет труда".
Мне также встретился в одной презентации перевод для "предметов труда" как raw materials. Он был указан в скобках. Получается, что тоже не совсем верно.
Удастся ли отразить изначальный смысл с помощью objects of work

Roman Bouchev, я с вами согласен, устоявшиеся термины либо утратили актуальность, либо вовсе не были удачными. Но народ наш их использовал, не совсем верно они отражают реальность. Чаще путали со "средствами производства" (means of production). Предметы труда это скорее то вещество в природе, которое мы подвергаем обработке при изготовления любого продукта для потребления. В том числе и сырье. Но не только оно. Но само словосочетание по смыслу также может охватывать и конечный продукт производственной деятельности человека, что не совсем верно. Я предлагаю просто перевести "processed items / processed materials and supplies".
