The term might refer to the number of facings. If you are looking at the cereal aisle you may see three facings of Cheerios (three units, horizontallly), which is a very popular product, but only one of GrapeNuts, much less popular, and the vendors fight to get more facings.

In this context, I understand it to mean 'point-of-sale displays', but elsewhere I believe it was meant to be store fronts or outlets. It's used in both contexts in my document.

PDV = Ponto de Venda, which can be a point of sale or outlet.
Since the text says "número de frentes", I'm supposing it does not refer to the displays, since the establishment has only one of those, not a "number". Given the entire sentence, though, it seems clear that it mght be away of saying "points of sale":
"... the presence of the product in the point of sales and the respective number of outlets (points of sale) where it is sold."
So I'm guessing the author only used two different terms for PDV, not to repeat it in the same sentence.
