German term or phrase: Der Kölner an sich verreist ungern
How should I translate "Der Kölner an sich verreist ungern", the Koelsch beer slogan? I've put "Cologne doesn't like to travel" or "Cologne doesn't like to travel alone" or "Cologne doesn't travel well" but none of these seem right! http://www.frueh.de/frueh-erleben/werbung/der-koelner-sich-v...

English translation:Colognians as such are reluctant to travel.
Explanation:
I would say ...
"Colognians as such are reluctant to travel." Colognians actually is the plural for people from Cologne.
or
"The average Cologne resident as such is reluctant to travel."
Though I would lean more towards the first one.

Why Cologners won't travel

Explanation:
If you need an English slogan, you might have to depart even further from the words of the source text.
And: If you need an English slogan, don't let yourself be paid cents for translation of 6 words, where an ad writer would charge hundreds (or thousands) of Euros or dollars for a slogan.

-> Thanks Lancashireman, I appreciate it :-)) NB: Love your slogan in the Discussion box and hope that no one will steal it for free!

agree  Michael Martin, MA: I can tell Cologners don’t travel much. What else explains the obsession with a beer that’s as light as a Radlermaß? Good slogan, though!

-> Thanks Michael ! I am married to a Cologner, and he is in fact very grounded (albeit to the Bavarian "exile" he has been living in for almost 30 years now :-))

To Cologners, traveling has its inconveniences

Explanation:
Nice marketing ploy. But the truth is, you can find Kölsch almost anywhere these days. What I'd really like to find in NYC is Schumacher Alt..

-> Well, I admit Kölsch is a great refreshing summer brew especially if you’re used to non-alcoholic beer but it certainly doesn’t hold up against a decent ale…

Der Witz bei dem Clip ist, dass für einen 'echten' Kölner das Überqueren des Rheins schon eine weite Reise ist. AM Ende sieht man den Dom und für das Paar ist die andere Seite vom Rhein praktisch wie Italien...und sie überrascht, dass es dort ihr geliebtes Kölsch gibt
