Spanish term or phrase: modistillas
This is from a history book on the Costa Brava talking about 'Batallas de Flores'. Would it be something like 'dressmaker apprentices' considering 'modista' is a 'dressmaker'?

seamstresses
Explanation:
I would say seamstresses as it suits the era. I don't think apprentice is necessary as a seamstress was a lower rank than a dressmaker anyway.

Seamstress. A seamstress is often regarded as an alternative for a dressmaker, but historically, a seamstress was someone who could sew, but didn't necessarily have the technical skills to create custom garments from scratch.

trainee dressmakers

Explanation:
Apprentice would be fine too, but I think trainee makes the text more fluent.

Example sentence(s):
  • After serving a two year apprenticeship to a Court Dressmaker a typical trainee dressmaker received no pay throughout training.
