agree  neilmac: "Theme" is a nice option, my "sobriquet" is likely too snooty...

  -> Thanks! It's a good word, though.

agree  Marisa Almor: Yes, sobriquet is not widely used, theme is probably better.

agree  Toni Castano: Theme, slogan, motto, several options here.

agree  John Ellis: You could also add heading or headline here, depending on the circumstance.

agree  Rachel Hall: I agree with "slogan." Sobriquet seems too formal for this text.

agree  Carol Gullidge: theme or slogan, and prefer 'festival of smiles" to "smiles fair" (by a long way!)

either would do, but I prefer "under the motto"

Will be known as....

Explanation:
'Motto' and other translations like 'theme' come across as perhaps too literal. How about:

This year's Feria de Leon will be known as the Feria of smiles...

I'd put Feria de Leon in italics but I'm new here and can't seem to do it.

with the theme "The Market of Smiles"

Explanation:
The word "lema" means: motto, theme, saying and even catch phrase. In this context, however, I believe that theme sounds the best.

Example sentence(s):
  • We would like to have a celebration this year with the theme: Castles in the Sky.
  • A World Without Hunger will be this year's theme.
