= "A group of two or more arranged one behind the other or used or acting in conjunction".
In other words, like in the old song, "go together like horse and carriage" (perhaps by turning a blind eye to the ominous-sounding 'ciertos acontecimientos históricos'...).

Another option could be to understand "marcan una *epojé* con" to mean something like "influenced/shaped by", which would at least make the sentence comprehensible to the lay or "average" reader without the lure or distraction of fancy-dancy 'foreign' or recondite terminologies.
