Thanks for this info, especially about the snap-hooks! I have them on my bags but couldn't think of what mousqueton was in English when I was submitting my suggestion. The "right" answer will surely be somewhere between your proposal and mine, because "retractable" and "self-retracting" are not 100% interchangeable. I'm not sure how I'd work "webbing" into mine, however.

A fall arrester is a type of SRL, so it isn't a question of either/or, more one of precision. An SRL can be used for purposes other than arresting a shortish fall and some of these, especially when the trajectory is long, not straight and/or may have to negotiate obstacles, are best served using cable rather than webbing. "Mousquetons" are snap-hooks or carabiners, not "D-rings".

The same term is used in industrial contexts, for "retractale belt barriers", which is why I asked my question. Admittedly, with "2 mousquetons 1/4 tour", the fall arrester ("stop-chute") seems more likely, but a trifle more context would have made that clear. ;-)

You may find it helpful to do some research around 'fall arresters', in which field these and similar devices are often used; manufacturers' listings are generally pretty comprehensive, and should help you with a lot of this terminology.
