I work in a bilingual law office - Spanish and English - and a couple of clients were working on the purchase of a piece of property. There was a discussion about whether to have a new map made, and the native English speaker said it would be better to "play it by ear" and make the decision later.

We wondered if there is an equivalent idiom in Spanish which would mean the same kind of thing - to wait and see what circumstances arise, to leave room for being flexible based on how things develop.
