Together they would ponder over the world Explanation: I think the verb deviser is used here to indicate a friendly yet philosophical or intellectual discussing of/exchanging ideas on complex issues Among the many possible verbs (consider, discuss, debate, etc...) I would go with to ponder over which also encompasses the meaning of 'at length' which could then be left out. Otherwise 'discuss at length' which would naturally mean rearranging the sentance or 'exchanging ideas about'... The use of 'would' to give the idea of the habitual nature of these friendly and encounters/discussions -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs (2016-09-20 21:06:07 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- another, maybe simpler, option could be They would have long discussions together about the world, art, philosophy...
