English term or phrase: Throwing down
This is an event held by a group of coffee roasters, to inaugurate the recent formation of the group.
They call the event a "Camp Brew Throwdown", and there is a description of a picture where someone is pouring coffee big time, for what seems to be a lot of participants.
What I´ve found in the Urban Dictionary for throwdown, or throw down, goes like this:

1. noun - Uncommon passion when having sex, making out, or some other form of sexual contact. Usually involves groping or aggression, sometimes growling, and varying degrees of being on the edge of losing self-control.

2. verb - to make something happen in a big way. to perform well, brilliantly, with virtuosity.

3. verb - to drink. a lot.

4. verb - to fight and win. Losing a fight should not be referred to as "throwing down."
"Wow... he's such a quiet guy. Who knew he'd have that kind of throwdown?"

Entries 2. and 3. seem to adapt quite well, but I can´t seem to find an adequate word in Spanish. Where I live, we have a very local and funny word which is "tomación", meaning HEAVY drinking (mostly alcohol), but I don´t think anyone would get that.

Any ideas will be very welcome.

Explanation:
A throwdown is just a fun, informal party. Depending on the context it can imply any level of raucousness, from an unhinged bacchanalia to simply a celebration among friends. I think fiesta fits this context just fine, as it covers just about every kind of celebration. No need to pick a more unusual or colloquial word unless you know more about the target Spanish-speaking audience. After checking out the webpage for the event, it is obvious to me that the event is definitely not a competition (although competitions may be part of the festivities); it is just a big gathering of people to have fun. For throwing down, I would say estar de fiesta, but for throwdown as a noun, I would use fiesta (or even gran fiesta to spice it up a bit).

No creo que se use mucho el gerundio, por lo que opté por la palabra segín figura en tu texto, aunque personalmente lo dejaría en inglés. La jerga moderna de los baristas está plagada de palabras extranjeras: "latte art" es un ejemplo.
