Je vois ici une utilisation de "to want" qui est très familier, et qui en réalité traduit une envie de donner des conseils, des recommandations à quelqu'un, d'où ma suggestion élargie, avec "vous devriez". Pour moi, ce petit bout de la phrase est un indice pour le ton du reste et c'est pourtant une utilisation familière, à la limite pas tout à fait correcte d'un point de vue grammatical, mais très employée.

Quant à "to go through", je ne vois aucune raison de ne pas rester très simple : on conseille de raconter.
